Crackle.com, the Sony Pictures Television-owned online video site, today named Jonathan Shambroom senior vice president and general manager as part of a restructuring within the company.
“Jonathan has proven his leadership since joining the Crackle team, and his understanding of new media has dramatically driven the site’s audience and revenue growth,” Sean Carey, senior executive VP of Sony Pictures, said in a press release. “Sony Pictures’ confidence in Crackle is stronger than ever, and we are continuing to increase our investment in [it].”
Shambroom was previously the company’s senior VP of products and marketing.
According to a Crackle representative, Shambroom’s promotion is part of a redistribution of duties within the company’s management.
There is no word yet on how the move relates to Crackle’s current co-presidents and co-founders, Josh Felser and Dave Samuel. Valleywag is reporting that the company laid off eight of its 60 employees today.
“As part of our continued growth, Crackle is focusing on content, marketing and sales,” Crackle’s rep added. “We have bigger budgets than ever in those areas and are actively hiring to grow those teams. We did make some changes today that align the company with this focus.”
Crackle was formerly known as Grouper, a media-sharing site that specialized in Web videos. Sony Pictures Entertainment purchased Grouper in August 2006 and rebranded it as Crackle last July.
