History Looks North Again

Apr 23, 2008  •  Post A Comment

History is hoping for another ice age.
Having scored scorching ratings with “Ice Road Truckers,” History—the cable network has dropped “The” and “Channel” from its moniker—is looking north again with a new weekly series called “Tougher in Alaska,” which will debut May 8 at 10 p.m.
“Tougher in Alaska” features tough-guy host Geo Beach, whose resume includes stints as a logger, firefighter and crab fisherman.
“Like most Alaskans, Geo has endured plenty of waves, winds and blizzards while living here,” the network said in a release. “Armed with his own experience and the centuries of Alaskan tradition, Geo reveals the guts, self-reliance, ingenuity and technology it takes to survive and prosper in this challenging land considered America’s last frontier.”
Since this is History, each episode not only deals with an aspect of Alaskan life, but looks at how residents of the 49th state have managed to deal with harsh conditions over the years.
The series’ first episode, for example, looks at gold mining, something Alaskans have been doing since at least the 1870s. In other episodes, Mr. Beach tries his hand at salmon fishing, logging, railroading and garbage disposal.
“Tougher in Alaska” is produced for History by Moore Huntley Productions. Executive producer is David Huntley. Executive producer for History is Carl H. Lindahl.
