Spike plans to launch its first original comedy, “Factory,” on June 29.
The series is directed, produced and stars Mitch Rouse, who co-created “Strangers with Candy” for Comedy Central. It follows the story of four workers in a small town factory.
“‘Factory’ is a unique improvised comedy that captures the everyday lives of four regular guys,” says Bill McGoldrick, VP for original programming at Spike TV. “This is Spike’s first original comedy and a great example of the type of comedic series which we are looking to develop.”
The addition of the original show at Spike puts the cable network among those developing their own programming to lure more viewers and advertisers.
Spike is part of Viacom’s MTV Networks, and reports to Doug Herzog, who also oversees Comedy Central.
