Blu-ray Is Really Big in Japan
Blu-ray player sales last month in Japan were more than triple January sales of Blu-ray and competing HD DVD machines combined, Reuters reports, citing research firm BCN. April sales of Sony’s Blu-ray players, which emerged earlier this year as the next-generation format victor over Toshiba’s HD DVD, exceeded standard-definition player sales for the first time, the wire service says.

The Tim Burton-directed comedy will be available by the fall for $34.99 in Blu-ray and $19.96 for standard-definition DVDs. Meanwhile, Viacom unit Paramount Home Entertainment re-released more than 20 Blu-ray titles, including “Mission: Impossible III” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” Video Business reports.
