USA Network said it ordered an eighth season of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.”
Original episodes of the series moved to cable’s USA Network from corporate cousin NBC last season. NBC then re-aired episodes after they appeared on cable, reversing the more traditional way of doing business.
The new episodes also will appear on NBC.
The show, created by Dick Wolf, is produced by Wolf Films and the newly formed NBC Universal Cable Studio.
The eighth season will consist of 16 episodes. Season seven launches June 8 on USA.
“We’re thrilled to have ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ for another season,” said Bonnie Hammer, president, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment and Cable Studio. “We not only forged new ground with its launch on USA last October, but we also succeeded in delivering to our viewers some of the finest writing and acting on television.”
Mr. Wolf thanked Ms. Hammer and Jeff Wachtel, executive VP for original programming at USA, for keeping the series going.
“I am extremely pleased that we will be back on USA for our eighth season,” he said. “‘Criminal Intent’ has thrived in its new home on USA and will for years to come.”
