Cable News Upfront Deals Underway

The cable news networks have begun closing upfront deals, ad sales executives and media buyers say.
In yet another sign that the upfront is alive and kicking harder than expected, network executives say buyers have come to them earlier than usual. They’re seeing healthy increases in the amount of money buyers have in their budgets and they’re agreeing to strong price increases.
The networks declined to comment.
The cable networks are in the middle of an election-year cycle that has boosted their ratings, making them more attractive to advertisers seeking rating points as the broadcast networks’ audiences continue to erode.
The networks are also presenting multimedia packages. For example, Fox News Channel is offering deals that include FoxNews.com and the Wall Street Journal, while CNN sells multiplatform packages, including its Web and mobile outlets.
