CBS News Names Logan Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent

Jun 25, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Lara Logan has been named chief foreign affairs correspondent for CBS News, an expanded role that will find her traveling from a new—and safer – home base in Washington, D.C.
Her new assignment is to report on foreign affairs and international security issues, as well as U.S. policy in whatever departments it is being made.
The South Africa-born Ms. Logan joined CBS News in 2002 after having covered Afghanistan and Iraq as a freelancer for CBS News Radio and other outlets. Her award-winning work for CBS News earned her the titles of chief foreign correspondent and contributor to “60 Minutes” in February 2006.
“Lara is among the most talented and respected journalists in our industry,” CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus said in the announcement Wednesday. “She is extraordinarily determined and courageous, but never fails to see and report the human side of conflict, including some of the most horrific stories of our time. Lara’s deep and varied experience around the world over the past 17 years positions her remarkably well for covering this expanded beat, which she will handle with the same fervor and dedication that our viewers have come to expect.”
