VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” will return for a second season in October, featuring celebrity patients Jeff Conaway, Sean Stewart, Amber Smith, Rodney King, Nikki McKibbon, Steven Adler and Tawny Kitaen as they undergo detoxification and treatment at a Los Angeles-area center.
The eight one-hour episodes will chronicle the patients’ 21-day program, which includes group and one-on-one therapy, as well as nontraditional therapies such as art and music.
Dr. Drew will be aided by returning drug counselor Bob Forrest and resident technician Shelly Sprague. The patients’ families will be brought in to participate in their recovery programs and sometimes receive treatment themselves.
Gary Busey also will participate, joining the cast to talk about his recovery from a cocaine addiction.
“Over the course of the first season we were inundated with positive feedback about the series from our viewers and those in the rehab community,” Jeff Olde, executive vice president of original programming and production for VH1, said in a statement. “Dr. Drew is a powerful, positive force for those seeking recovery.”
Following their stay in the 21-day program, the patients will be encouraged to continue treatment at a sober living facility or treatment center for three months at VH1’s expense. VH1 also will present on-air PSAs about addiction and online resources for those seeking help.
