Lifetime Television, which hasn’t had an original comedy in a decade, ordered 13 episodes of original half-hour sitcom “Rita Rocks,” from Media Rights Capital, the network said.
The series stars Nicole Sullivan (“Kim Possible,” “The King of Queens”) as a women unfulfilled by her life as a married working mom who tries to recapture her glory days by playing in a garage band.
Lifetime had two other comedies in development, but for now plans to pair “Rita Rocks” in a one-hour block with off-net sitcom “Reba” in the fall.
“Our loyal viewers are fans of our comedy programming, and we know they will think Rita rocks too,” said Susanne Daniels, president of entertainment at Lifetime Networks.
