Sony Pictures Television casting chief Dawn Steinberg has been promoted to executive vice president.
Ms. Steinberg has been senior VP of talent and casting since joining the studio five years ago this month. She’ll continue to oversee casting for all of Sony’s series, movies and miniseries, reporting to Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, the studio’s programming and production co-presidents.
As a result of the promotion, Ms. Steinberg will expand her portfolio to include supervision of casting for Sony’s burgeoning roster of online and mobile productions.
Mr. Erlicht praised Ms. Steinberg’s “great eye for talent,” while Mr. Van Amburg said she has been key to the studio’s performance during awards season.
“We have won multiple Emmys and Golden Globes because Dawn puts the right actors in the right roles,” Mr. Van Amburg said.
Ms. Steinberg has recently been key to casting Bryan Cranston in “Breaking Bad,” Patrick Swayze in “The Beast,” J.B. Smoove in “’Til Death” and Rose Byrne in “Damages.”
Before arriving at Sony, Ms. Steinberg spent two years as a casting consultant for NBC Studios. She previously was senior VP of casting for Michael Ovitz’s short-lived Artists Television Group.
