CNN Adds Bases in 10 U.S. Cities

Aug 12, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Aggressive plans for expanding CNN’s newsgathering presence to 10 additional U.S. cities were announced Tuesday by Nancy Lane, senior VP of newsgathering for CNN/U.S.
A mix of general-assignment reporters, show-based correspondents attached to CNN’s daytime and prime-time programs, and newly designated all-platform journalists will be deployed to Columbus, Ohio; Denver; Houston; Las Vegas; Minneapolis; Orlando; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; and Seattle.
CNN has bureaus in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
Ms. Lane said, “CNN’s rapid adoption of new technology over the years put us in the enviable position to be able to expand at a time when others are cutting back.”
The expansion also is expected to foster stronger partnerships with affiliates throughout the country.

  1. CNN will have bureaus in Columbus, Las Vegas, and Orlando, but none in Canada. I want to see CNN use more stories from its 28 foreign bureaus before I want to see what’s going on in Raleigh-Durham.
I can watch the top stories on these small cities’ local channel websites, and there is absolutely nothing happening in Phoenix.
These ten new bureaus will probably consist of four people — a reporter, a cameraman, a sound technician, and a guy who can fix a satellite feed. I bet nineteen out of twenty of their stories will involve a sports team.

  2. Minneapolis and Raleigh-Durham seem out of the blue from my perspective. Las Vegas . . . well, they want to gamble, don’t they? How come CNN doesn’t have a bureau in Norfolk, Virgina, home to the world’s largest naval base as well as the US home of NATO? Plus, the area has been seen, at least in this election cycle, as a major point of interest for both Presidential candidates, who made many numerous stops throughout the year.
But I guess Norfolk doesn’t matter, especially in the newsmaking city that is Columbus, Ohio. It would be nice to expand their foreign bureaus as well, placing at least one in Canada, perhaps Toronto or Montreal.

  21. What a release to determine a piece of paper that can be present at last in truth meaning reading! I’ve been seeking all-around on the subject of this focus but men and women now put garbage posts, or brief empty article. I have observed a couple vids on youtube but it’s now the equivalent as reading a good article.
