Olympics Soars to New Heights

Tuesday’s prime-time Olympics coverage on NBC set a network high not seen since the finale of “Friends” in 2004.
Posting an 11.3 rating/30 share in prime-time in the 18- to 49-year-old demographic, NBC’s Beijing coverage also was a Tuesday high since the Salt Lake City Games in 2002.
The Games earned a 19.9/34 average in households during the evening’s full coverage on NBC, which ran from 8 p.m. to 12:19 p.m. That was up 9% over Athens’ day five in 2004.
NBC also released its Total Audience Measurement Index, or TAMI, for the first four days of Olympic coverage. NBC’s TAMI features data on all Olympic content on all platforms, including mobile and video-on-demand.
Online views at NBCOlympics.com have risen steadily through the first four days of coverage, with nearly 7.8 million unique users on Monday, and 21.1 million through four days. That’s 90% better than online viewership for the entire Athens Games.

  1. I’m in San Diego, & I questioned ‘Laz’, Sports broadcaster from the local NBC station, when he downplayed all of Michael Phelps accomplishments last night, 8/13. As a swim coach & swim school owner, I suggested that he get off his ex-football buttocks & see the greatnes of this man.
Tonight, the producer agreed with Laz, implying that 11 Gold Medals was not a show of a great athlete.
I pointed out, that not only is a Great athlete, he has volunteered to be tested every day for illegal drugs – we all know that this is a problem in Premier Athletics. he continued to downplay Phelps.
I then pointed out that not only do swimmers have the highest grade point average of all sports, it is a risk free sport, & uses almost all muscles.
I told him that San Diego has premier Swimmers that have Jr. Olympic & National times, & how many times has his News department reported on this? He didn’ t care.
One time, every 4 years, Swimmers get the recognition they deserve, & I guess NBC7/39 doesn’t think so.
May they get poop in their pool.
