Atlanta-based Gray Television announced Wednesday that J. Mack Robinson is stepping down as chairman and CEO of the station group with which he has been associated since 1993.
Mr. Robinson’s son-in-law, Gray board Vice Chairman Hilton H. Howell Jr., will add the duties of CEO.
Mr. Robinson will remain a voting board member and hold the title of chairman emeritus.
“My decision to step down should not come as a surprise to anyone, given that I’m now 85 years old,” Mr. Robinson in the announcement Wednesday.
“My family has been investors in and board members of Gray or its predecessors since the founding of KWTX-TV in Waco, Texas, in 1951, and I look forward to continuing and building on that commitment going forward,” Mr. Howell said.
Gray operates 36 television stations affiliated with the four major broadcast networks serving 30 markets. The group also has launched 40 digital second channels, including one affiliated with ABC, five affiliated with Fox, eight with The CW and 16 with MyNetworkTV, in addition to eight local news/weather channels and two “independent” channels.
