BET Entertainment President Reginald Hudlin is stepping down, the Viacom-owned network said Thursday.
Mr. Hudlin will resume his career as an independent film producer.
Under Mr. Hudlin, the network has increased the amount of original programming it runs and tried to move away from its heavy reliance on music videos.
“From the moment he joined the BET family, Reggie infused our program development with incredible creativity, energy and passion,” said BET CEO Debra Lee in an internal memo. “During his tenure, Reggie brought in many talented executives and built an impressive and dedicated programming team who are a huge asset to the company, and I look forward to even more compelling programming from all of them.”
BET named Stephen Hill as interim head of entertainment while the search for a successor to Mr. Hudlin is conducted. Mr. Hill is BET’s executive VP of music programming and talent and the creator of the network’s BET Awards, “106 & Park” music series and “College Hill” show.
