CNN to Open Abu Dhabi Facility

CNN has announced it will open a new broadcast center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where it plans to produce live daily programming on the Middle East.
The new studio will open in Abu Dhabi’s Media Zone sometime in early 2009. The news network will have some 30 dedicated staff members including an international anchor, programming producers and a newsgathering team. In addition to local coverage, the center will provide Middle East and Persian Gulf region news to CNN Worldwide networks.
“For a global news organization, the Middle East was the logical choice for an investment of this scale,” CNN International Managing Director Tony Maddox said. “Our new operation in Abu Dhabi will enable us to continue to meet and exceed the demands of our audiences at a time when many of our competitors are having to retrench.”
CNN will relocate production of its programs “Inside the Middle East” and “Marketplace Middle East” to the Abu Dhabi center.
“We have long covered the Middle East region comprehensively on our air, and now we will have the on-the-ground infrastructure to serve, support and facilitate that coverage to the next level,” Maddox added.
