LIN Stations Pulled From TWC Systems

LIN TV pulled the signal for its local stations from Time Warner Cable systems in 11 markets after retransmission consent negotiations failed on Thursday.
A Time Warner Cable spokeswoman said active talks continued Friday as the weekend approached.
TV station owners have been increasingly aggressive in seeking cash payments from cable operators, while some cable operators dismiss the notion of having subscribers pay for what is available free over the air.
Both sides are urging viewers to get broadcast programming from other sources. Time Warner Cable is giving out antennae and providing instructions for how to view streaming programming on television sets. LIN has entered into a deal giving new subscribers to Dish Network a $50 bonus payment.
On its local system Web sites, Time Warner Cable said the broadcaster is trying to “make up for lower ratings and advertising revenue by added fees that will fill, ultimately on the backs of our cable customers.”
LIN said it has reached agreements with every other major distributor. “Most cable operators, like their satellite and telecommunications competitors, now understand and acknowledge that fair and equitable compensation is essential to ensure the viability of local television,” said LIN TV President and CEO Vincent Sadusky.
Analyst Rich Greenfield of Pali Capital said he expected Time Warner Cable to lose subscribers, particularly in markets where NFL games are affected. “We do not believe they are going to get a better deal from LIN by waiting,” he added.

  1. everyone has a valid point, but if TWC wants to isolate the “bad” guy. They should make the LIN stations a pay channel like HBO and Showtime…. 😀

  2. just because lin tv struck a deal with dish network they now want more dishnetwork subscribers cause the more subscribers for dish the more money for lin tv. all of this with twc after dishnetwork deal. everyone should pull advertisements from them cause they are getting compensated very well from it already and now want cable subscribers to pay for it also cause they are not paying cable for free stuff just cause its bundled with cable stations….so retarded

  3. is this because of gas prices or mccain-palin? maybe palin should explain more about retransmission efficiency and how she as mayor has made it much better for the people of alaska…wink, wink..you bettcha

  4. its like water..water is free until it gets cleaned, bottled and packaged. cable companies clean up the free signals and retransmit the signals way better than before and now lin wants to be compensated for making their stuff better. as if cleaning their signals was free or something and i bet more people would rather prefer a good clean picture than a crappy free one
