Republicans Have Boosted Campaign Spending

Oct 29, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Barack Obama has certainly been leading the advertising spending, but the Republican National Committee has dramatically increased its spending in the presidential race in the last two weeks.
The party’s independent expenditure arm has spent $25 million to air anti-Obama ads during that period in Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Montana and Colorado, nearly doubling its overall spending for the election cycle. The independent arm can’t coordinate its efforts with either the McCain campaign or party officials, but then can raise funds for advertising.
On Wednesday the independent arm launched its biggest Hispanic buy, a nearly $400,000 weeklong buy of ads on Miami’s Hispanic TV stations.
The independent expenditure arm is running several ads that raise the question of Sen. Obama’s executive experience.
