Cablevision Raises 2009 TV Rates by 3.5%

Cablevision announced it will increase its cable TV rates by 3.5% in 2009, below the current rate of inflation.
The telecommunications company also will leave pricing for its Optimum Online high-speed Internet and Optimum Voice digital phone service unchanged for the sixth year in a row.
Over the last year, Cablevision has expanded its high-def roster to 65 channels, increased its free video on-demand library to some 2,000 titles and begun plans to offer free Wi-Fi to customers in its service area. The company serves more than 3 million households in the New York metropolitan area.
Cablevision said the rate of inflation for the first nine months of 2008 was 4.59%.
