Ax Falls on NBC’s ‘Enemy,’ ‘Lipstick’

NBC is pulling the plug on its highly touted fall drama “My Own Worst Enemy” as well as sophomore hour “Lipstick Jungle.”
According to a person familiar with the situation, the network has decided not to order any additional episodes of the two shows, both of which are produced by Universal Media Studios. While no decisions have been made as to when the shows will exit the NBC lineup, the decision not to pick up more episodes of either series amounts to cancellation.
The “Lipstick” cancellation had been anticipated following the show’s disastrous ratings when it moved to Friday nights two weeks ago. Of course, NBC did the show no favors by shifting its time slot with virtually no advance notice, confusing fans of the serialized soap opera.
The writing also has been on the wall for “Enemy,” which has seemed to lose audience each week it was on the air. It didn’t help that the show’s lead-in, “Heroes,” has been fading in the ratings as well, but viewers simply didn’t seem interested in the heavily hyped Christian Slater hour.
NBC wasn’t commenting Wednesday night, but industry insiders already were speculating about how the network will fill the 10 p.m. time slot that “Enemy” eventually will vacate.
Long-running drama “Medium,” which has worked well in the time slot before, is an obvious candidate (though that show is supposed to air on Sundays). NBC had previously said “The Philanthropist” would fill the slot, but the network might slot its ambitious drama “Kings” into the hour.
As for Fridays, NBC has said “Friday Night Lights,” currently airing on DirecTV, would return to the night in January.

  1. ‘Medium’ Mondays at 10. DUH.

  2. NBC renews this garbage show Lipstick and does not bring back Las Vegas. Great minds at NBC that’s for sure.
    BRING BACK LAS VEGAS!!!!!

  3. While I too would love to see Las Vegas return, at least as a movie to properly wrap up loose ends, I fear the cost would just be too prohibitive given the massive Montecito casino set has been struck.
