Disney-ABC Television Distribution’s “Legend of the Seeker” is being made available online via Apple’s iTunes store, making it the only first-run syndicated series to be made available via the download site.
Episodes of “Seeker,” which premiered last weekend, will become available on iTunes the Monday after broadcast at $1.99 for standard-definition downloads and $2.99 for high-definition versions.
The series is also available via the XBox Live Marketplace.
“We’re excited to offer all of the episodes in their entirety on the iTunes store to our viewers,” said Janice Marinelli, president of Disney-ABC Domestic Television. “In addition to enjoying ‘Legend of the Seeker’ during its regularly scheduled broadcast, fans will now have the opportunity to enjoy these mini-epic adventures where and when they want.”
As part of the “Seeker” rollout, a free half-hour preview of the show was available on iTunes and on Web sites of stations carrying it. The buildup also included an exclusive hourlong promo, hosted by Lucy Lawless, that was distributed to stations in the weeks prior to the show’s premiere.
“Seeker” is a return of sorts to first-run scripted fare in syndication. The last major hit for the genre was “Xena: Warrior Princess,” which shares executive producers with “Seeker.”
