Health Stages a Race to Survive

Have you ever said to someone, “I’ll get into shape if it kills me?” Now there’s a TV series that shows you that being in shape could mean the difference between life and death in an emergency situation.
“Could You Survive?,” premiering Dec. 4 on Discovery Health, tests to see whether average people have the strength, endurance and agility to get through a crisis. Many people assume that an adrenaline rush will carry them through an emergency, but that’s not always the case when one is called upon to race out of a burning building, carry a loved one to safety or climb stairs to escape a natural disaster.
Hosted by heath and fitness expert Dr. Pamela Peeke and a team of Marine trainers, the four-part series puts people through rigorous physical challenges using a tough-love approach.
The challenges on the show include a race to save a loved one injured in a car accident, an escape from a raging wildfire, a rescue mission to save a family member from a boating accident and an attempt to flee a crumbling building devastated by an earthquake.
In the series, some of these challenges prove too much for the out-of-shape participants, who bounce back and commit to reclaiming their lives as part of a monthlong training program. They attempt the same challenges again on the Dec. 18 series finale.
“Could You Survive?” is produced for Discovery Health by LMNO Productions. Lisa Bourgoujian is executive producer. Alon Orstein is executive producer for Discovery Health.
