Stephen K. Friedman has been named general manager of MTV, MTV Networks announced Thursday.
Mr. Friedman will continue to oversee mtvU, of which he was general manager. He also will be responsible for MTV.com, MTV2, MTV Tr3s, MTV Hits and MTV Jams.
Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music and Logo Group, has been managing MTV on a day-to-day basis since the departure of MTV President Christina Norman in February. Mr. Friedman will report to Mr. Toffler.
“Stephen is one of the most talented young executives in the industry,” Mr. Toffler said in a statement.
“As head of mtvU, he and his team have developed a strong brand connection with the coveted college audience, forging smart alignments and acquisitions that have truly enhanced our overall business,” Mr. Toffler said. “That business acumen is matched by a real capacity for tapping into what matters most to our audience.”
