Generate, Fox Ink TV Development/Production Deal

Jan 28, 2009  •  Post A Comment

Online television studio Generate struck a multiyear television development and production deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television, one of a growing number of partnerships between a new-media shop and a traditional television studio or network. The companies announced the deal at the National Association of Television Program Executives in Las Vegas.

Pink: The Series

IN THE ‘PINK’ Generate produces the ongoing Web series.

The deal calls for Generate to develop scripted broadcast and cable series concepts exclusively for Fox. The studio also has first-look rights to any alternative or reality projects developed by Generate during the deal.
Generate’s partnership with Fox underscores the pressing need for new-media producers to link up with old Hollywood in order to thrive. Despite the growth of Web audiences, traditional networks and studios still rake in big bucks compared to fledgling Web studios.
Landing a deal with a network can raise the profile of a digital studio, as well as boost its bottom line. Web studio 60 Frames has a development deal with NBC, while Web shop EQAL is partnered with CBS.
On the Web, Generate is best known for the recent “Republicrats” series, which ran during the presidential election, and for the ongoing Web show “Pink.” Generate also produces television shows such as “Chocolate News” for Comedy Central and “Somebodies” for BET.
Generate is led by Jordan Levin, former CEO of The WB, who worked with Fox on shows including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” during his tenure at the broadcast network.

  1. We have almost finished our documentary but we still need to film 4 very important veterans in the US. Can you help us? If you can’t maybe you know someone who can. One of our veterans is the last MOH winner from the Battle of the Bulge. These men are all in their late 80’s and as far as Mike Collins and I are concerned they are national treasures. Their stories deserve to be heard before they pass away. We desperately need to get a camera crew over there to help finish this job and the company that we’ve worked with so far Latch Drom is interested in a co-production. Below is a clip from our film. hope to hear from you soon.
    Best regards Martin & Mike

  4. hi,
what is your opinion for Wayne Rooney
Will he really leave Old Trafford?
because there is now speculation that the 24 year-old could be on the move. It really wouldn’t surprise me if he did move on after all that’s gone on. However it would need to be abroad if he was to avoid the British media.

  5. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
