While auto and pharmaceutical industry spending was down for the first nine
months of 2008, the top 10 categories were up as a group, according to figures
from the Nielsen Co. Posting an especially big gain was direct response, with
companies including Guthy-Renker, Rosetta Stone and Allstar Marketing spending
in search of sales. A list of the top 10 spending product categories is below.
