Univision Reaches Retrans Deal With Comcast

Jan 6, 2009  •  Post A Comment

Univision Communications, the top Spanish-language broadcaster, signed a distribution agreement with the biggest cable operator, Comcast, the companies said Tuesday.
The agreement covers retransmission consent for broadcast stations owned by Univision, plus Univision affiliates owned by Entravision Communications, Fisher Communications and Equity Media Holding Co.
The deal also covers Univision’s cable network Galavision and, outside of markets in which Univision has a station, feeds for the Univision and TeleFutura networks.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Univision CEO Joe Uva had been quoted last year saying that retransmission rights to the network were worth $1 per subscriber.
Until this year, Univision had been providing its signal to cable operators on a must-carry basis.
