CW Takes Another Bite With Alloy on ‘Vampire’

Feb 6, 2009  •  Post A Comment

The CW is once again teaming with “Gossip Girl” publisher Alloy Entertainment, greenlighting a one-hour drama pilot based on the company’s novel series “The Vampire Diaries.”
“Scream” scribe Kevin Williamson is on board to write and executive produce “Vampire,” teaming up with Julie Plec (“Kyle XY”). Warner Bros. Television and Alloy will produce, with Les Morgenstein and Bob Levy also serving as executive producers.
If it goes to series, “Vampire” will likely be the third CW series from the Alloy factory. In addition to “Gossip,” the company is behind the CW’s almost-certain-to-move-forward “Gossip” spinoff.
Originally published in 1993– long before the “Twilight” phenomenon– “Vampire Diaries” was a four-novel series that did just OK when first released. Following the success of “Twilight,” Alloy decided to repackage the books and release three new installments. So far, it’s worked: The books have landed on the New York Times bestseller list for the first time ever.
According to the CW, “Diaries” will revolve around a young damsel who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers — one “good”, one “evil” — who are at war for her soul and for the souls of her friends, family, and other residents of the small town in which she resides.
Mr. Williamson last produced “Hidden Palms” for the CW. He is repped by William Morris, while Ms. Plec is represented by Endeavor.
In other pilot news, the CW has also greenlit the Peter Horton-produced drama “The Body Politic,” a Washington, D.C.-based soap opera from writers Jason Rothenberg and Bill Robinson (“Pasadena”). CBS Paramount Network Television is producing.
And over at CBS, Warner Bros. has also scored a greenlight for the comedy pilot “The Big D,” from “That 70s Show” writers Jackie Filgo and Jeff Filgo. It’s about a New York City couple whos move to the husband’s hometown of Dallas.

  1. This sounds like a totally fun show. I loved Hidden Palms, and I never grew out of teen dramas.

  2. I think CW should definitely pick up Kyle XY, an already well established series that has so much more potential, but unfortunately given the axe by ABC Fam. This will allow CW as network to not only utilize the services of the awesome KXY cast and crew, but will also please thousands of viewers on the unnecessary and irrelevant cancellation. Plz CW, help save the show. We want more KXY! Thnx!
