Darwin Honored With Evolution Television

The National Geographic Channel is celebrating Charles Darwin, marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of the man who popularized the theory of evolution.
Starting Sunday, NatGeo is running a three-part series called “Morphed,” which uses 3-D animation to bring ancient creatures to life and show how they evolved into today’s species.
One episode, “Morphed: From Dinosaur to Turkey,” traces the discovery of a fossil of an animal that appears to be both bird and dinosaur. Another addresses the mystery of 400 giant whale skeletons found in the desert outside of Cairo. The third installment traces the bear back to his dog-like ancestors.
Mr. Darwin’s studies in the Galapagos Islands are well known, but “Darwin’s Secret Notebooks,” a special airing Feb. 10 at 9 p.m., takes a look at other stops on his multiyear expedition and the discoveries he made that helped shape the theory of natural selection.
NatGeo also will telecast an episode of “Explorer” that follows a team of explorers and scientists to an underwater spot in the Congo River basin in Africa where the ongoing process of evolution can be witnessed. “Explorer: Monster Fish of the Congo” airs Feb. 10 at 10 p.m.
