The prognosis for CBS Television Distribution’s “The Doctors” continues to look positive, as the freshman series tied for first place in household ratings in its genre for the week ending Jan. 25. The medical talk show even bested “Live With Regis and Kelly” in New York on Friday and Monday.
“Doctors” posted a 1.9 rating in household ratings for the week ending Jan. 25, tying NBC Universal Television Distribution’s “Deal or No Deal,” which declined by 5%.
Showing growth over the past month and a half, “Doctors” averaged a 2.5 rating/9 share in households in New York City on Friday, Jan. 31, trumping “Regis” for the first time ever in the market by 9%. “The Doctors” overtook “Regis” again in NYC on Monday, Feb. 2, with a 3.2/11.
The week of Jan. 25 contained Martin Luther King Jr. Day as well as the inauguration of President Barack Obama, which preempted several programs on Monday and Tuesday.
CBS Television Distribution’s “The Oprah Winfrey Show” capitalized on the week’s events by taping several episodes in Washington, D.C. The talk show had its second highest-rated show on Monday, Jan. 19, with a visit from Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, racking up a 6.8 household rating.
“Oprah” posted a 5.2 rating for the week, increasing 11%.
Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” also had a big day on Monday with an appearance by George Clooney, a guest Ms. DeGeneres has been after since her move to Burbank.
“Ellen” posted a 3.2 household rating that day, tying the second highest rating in the show’s history. The talker grabbed a 2.5 household rating for the week, increasing 9%.
Other talk show standouts include NBC Universal’s “The Steve Wilkos Show,” whose 9% increase to a 1.2 rating is a season high for the sophomore program.
Newsmagazines didn’t get an inaugural bounce; in fact, a majority of them dipped by single digits from last week. CBS’ “The Insider” was the lone improvement, rising to a season-high 2.1 rating, up 5%.
Court shows were in similar shape, with little movement in the genre. CBS’ “Judge Judy” increased 2% to a 4.6 rating, marking the only increase. Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s “Judge Mathis” was the group’s only downer, falling 6% to a 1.7.
In game shows, CBS’ “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” led the way. “Wheel” fell 4% to a 7.4, while “Jeopardy!” stayed flat at a 6.3 rating.
