NBC Universal is in negotiations to bring productions including “The Jerry Springer Show” to Connecticut as the state offers tax incentives to lure the TV industry.
Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today issued a release saying NBC Universal and the state are discussing creation of a production studio that would involve an investment of $3 million and could bring as many as 200 jobs.
NBC Universal is considering moving “Springer,” “The Steve Wilkos Show” and “Maury” to Connecticut, a person close to the negotiations said.
“Springer” and “Wilkos” are currently produced in Chicago, while “Maury” is filmed in New York City.
Tax incentives, including the state’s 30% production tax credit on annual activity and 20% tax credit on infrastructure costs exceeding $1 million are part of the state’s allure, Gov. Rell said in a statement.
While nothing official has been set, the plan is for the shows to be up and running for their 2009-10 season, the source said.
