The Sportsman Channel has tapped Willy Burkhardt as president.
Mr. Burkhardt will oversee the network’s programming, production and digital operations. He will continue to serve as executive vice president of InterMedia Outdoors, the parent company of the network. The appointment further integrates the companies by bringing oversight of both companies under one person.
Mr. Burkhardt previously served as executive VP and a member of the board at ESPN. He launched more than a dozen networks at both ESPN and Turner Broadcasting System.
Meanwhile, Michael Cooley, Sportsman Channel’s co-founder, will become its chairman. Co-founder Todd Hansen will continue as chief marketing officer and senior VP, overseeing programming, sales and marketing activities.
Mr. Cooley and Mr. Burkhardt will report to InterMedia Outdoors CEO Jeff Paro, while Mr. Hansen will report to Mr. Burkhardt.
“This is a natural progression for the Sportsman Channel as we continue to apply IMO’s vast resources to the network,” Mr. Paro said in a statement. “IMO’s content—digital, print and television—is being aggregated to drive the Sportsman Channel to becoming the No. 1 network in the outdoor space. Willy is uniquely qualified to deliver on this goal. His experience, strategic direction and operating skills will make the Sportsman Channel a more engaging network, and our viewers and partners will see the value immediately.”
