Demand Spikes for CBS’ March Madness VOD

CBSSports.com saw usage surge for its NCAA March Madness on Demand video player in 2009.
The player attracted 7.52 million unique visitors, representing a 58% increase from 2008. Viewers consumed 8.6 million total hours of video and audio, up 75% from 2008.
On TV, CBS Sports saw a viewership increase of 5% in metered markets for its coverage of the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
“Together with the NCAA, March Madness on Demand continues to set the bar for excellence for online video coverage of a sports event,” Jason Kint, senior VP and general manager for CBS Sports, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled by the record numbers we saw this year and appreciate the tremendous support we received from across CBS in helping to make this event as successful as it was.”
