NBCU is urging recipients of the government-issue digital-to-analog converter coupon to act fast, Broadcasting & Cable reports. The network is concerned that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, in charge of overseeing the February digital switchover, will not extend the 90-day expiration dates printed on the vouchers. The limited validity period was set in place to avoid fraud, but it poses a problem due to the current shortage of converter boxes. NBCU compared the possible shortage to a “Y2K” situation and said it’s looking into the possibility of asking the government to delay the switch deadline should it be necessary.
