NBCU, Stations Promote Digital

Apr 16, 2008  •  Post A Comment

NBCU is joining forces with Tribune and Hearst-Argyle to ease the digital transition and ensure that programming reaches viewers after the switch, according to Broadcasting & Cable. The companies plan to promote the use of Active Format Descriptor technology to optimize the signal and preserve the intended aspect ratio. Without this mechanism, programming display could glitch out for viewers trying to access HDTV with analog or improperly configured sets. NBCU said more than 20 companies are supporting the initiative, which is currently being demonstrated at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas.
