Cable Operators Playing with VOD

Comcast said at the NCTA’s Cable Show ’08 that it is now providing 500 on-demand programming choices in HD, with 1,000 planned by the end of the year, Broadcasting & Cable reports. Cablevision Systems also introduced new applications for VOD, including targeted ads and electronic sell-through, the newspaper notes. Cable operators are still in the early stages of figuring out how to use on-demand platforms to generate revenue and fight subscriber defections, according to Comcast COO Stephen Burke, the newspaper says.
