Groups See Short Life for DTV Boxes, TVs

The American Association of People With Disabilities and the Consumer Federation of America, as well as several other groups, argue that the National Telecommunications & Information Administration’s digital converter boxes and all digital televisions, except for Sony models, will become obsolete, Broadcasting & Cable reports. The products “do not have any automatic software repair or upgrade capability,” shortening their lifespans, the groups claimed, the newspaper says. The groups asked the Federal Communications Commission to look into the problem, the newspaper notes.
