TV stations are facing technical challenges as more syndicated programs begin broadcasting in high definition, Broadcasting & Cable reports. Many TV stations are not equipped to receive HD signals and must instead rely on time-consuming transcoding processes, the newspaper says. Software and server upgrades, as well as licensing fees, to receive syndicated programs in HD could cost as much as $20,000 per station, the newspaper notes.
