The Writers Guild of America strike cost California about $2.1 billion, according to a report by the Milken Institute, the Los Angles Times says. The effects of the strike were magnified because entertainment industry workers who lost their jobs scaled back spending and businesses that service the industry—caterers, hotels, dry cleaners—were squeezed.
