Cablevision Systems persuaded an appeals court to reverse a trial court that had barred the company from using its servers to provide digital video recorder capabilities to customers, Broadcasting & Cable reports. The decision, which sends the case back to the trial court, could let cable operators such as Cablevision trim costs by avoiding expensive, set-top DVRs. The ruling is a setback for Turner Broadcasting System’s Cartoon Network and CNN, Fox, NBC, Disney, CBS and ABC in their copyright case.
