CNN’s plan to reallocate resources domestically will result in a 25% reduction in staff at its Chicago bureau to nine positions, the Chicago Tribune reports. The larger plan is to scatter journalists who can work across different media such as TV and the Web across the map, working solo in some locations that will be beefed up in coverage emergencies, the newspaper says. CNN’s Midwest bureau chief position is being eliminated and reporters in Chicago will report to a Los Angeles-based Western region chief, the Tribune notes.
