Media Life Magazine is predicting a big year for digital video recorders based on preseason TV ratings. According to a Nielsen sample, shows for Fox and The CW saw increased DVR usage compared to last year. The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” Sept. 4 debut increased its 2.39 live rating by 54% among women 18-34, giving it a 3.67 total rating within that demographic when you include seven-day DVR playback. DVR usage helped Fox’s “Bones” receive a 23% bump for its 2008 premiere: 8.94 million viewers watched the season premiere live while another 2.02 million recorded it.
