Cable Encroaches on Broadcast’s Fall

Oct 10, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Cable networks are premiering more original shows in the fall, putting them in direct competition with the broadcast networks’ fall lineups, Reuters reports. FX has had success in the past with fall airings of “Nip/Tuck” and “The Shield,” while recent programs like ABC Family’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and TNT’s “Raising the Bar” have premiered to strong numbers, sometimes even beating their broadcast counterparts, the wire service notes. “There are a lot of options out there, and people are loyal to the shows they like. The broadcast networks can’t lay claim to the kind of exclusivity that they used to,” Steven Bochco told the wire service.
