Sony Pictures Gives Crackle Some Pop

Sony Pictures Entertainment is hoping to give its Web video site Crackle.com a shot in the arm by bringing new management in a new headquarters along with more full-length content from the studio’s library, the Hollywood Reporter says. The site began as a destination for user-generated content but since Sony acquired it in 2006, the company has been trying to transform it into “an online version of a programmed channel,” the trade paper says. Meanwhile, Sony said its second quarter profit was 72% lower than a year ago as gains in by the Japanese yen eroded the value of sales of its flat-panel TVs and PlayStation 3 game consoles, the Associated Press reports. Net profit was $214 million for the second quarter, the company said.
