CNN’s Holograms Not Actual Holograms

Nov 6, 2008  •  Post A Comment

The life-size holograms CNN ushered out on Election Night weren’t really holograms, Canada’s CBC News reports. Interviews with projected images of CNN reporter Jessica Yellin and rapper Will.I.Am didn’t feature holograms because anchors Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper were speaking to empty spaces, CBC says. The images of Ms. Yellin and Will.I.Am that viewers saw at home were actually tomograms, the Web site notes. Hans Jurgen Kreuzer, a professor of theoretical physics at Dalhousie University, told CBC that the technology needed to create holograms of big objects is still a ways off.
