The Advanced Television Systems Committee has approved a proposal to allow digital television stations to broadcast to mobile phones, Broadcasting & Cable reports. The standard, which is expected to be finalized in mid-2009, is designed to bring a
number of interactive elements that users will be able to control from their cell phones. B&C reports that those interactive features may include audience voting via an Internet connection as well as on-demand in-vehicle news, traffic and sports.
