Citing the state of the economy, Lionsgate Entertainment gave pink slips to 17 employees Friday morning at its Santa Monica, Calif.-based independent movie and television studio today, the Los Angeles Times reports. All divisions of its production and distribution divisions were affected, including motion pictures, television, home entertainment, business affairs, finance and legal. The company expects to save $10 million in annual overhead with this morning’s layoffs and the elimination of 24 currently vacant positions.
