Cooper’s Not Interested in Opinions

Dec 29, 2008  •  Post A Comment

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, CNN’s Anderson Cooper says that despite the success of Rachel Maddow and Campbell Brown on cable, he doesn’t plan to begin to inject his opinion into his prime time newscast. “I’m just not interested as a viewer in listening to anchors’ opinions,” the anchor tells the paper. “It seems like there’s an awful lot of yelling, and this year yelling’s been replaced by sarcasm and snarkiness.”

  1. Mr. Cooper, you are a good journalist by today’s standards and for that I commend you.
However, c’mon, Anderson, you and I both know you have been known to put a lot of “influence” on to your facial and verbal nuances.
You want to be “Anchor Clean”?
Then be so and consistantly so…keep up the good work…just don’t spread yourself too thin between all your CNN and now CBS 60 MINUTES assignments.
Objectivity and Integrity, eat sleep and drink it.

  2. Anderson Cooper brings up a point that has either been long ignored by viewers or unfortunately been embraced by them and that is the yelling, the opinions, snarkiness and sarcasm from news anchors.
All networks, the big three and cable are guilty of it. It’s so very hard to find straight news these days. There is a feeling of distrust in the information that is being given by the anchors and reporters.
It appears that it is hard for anchors and reporters to retrain their smirks and sneers. I believe the presidential elections brought all of this to the highest point ever. It was like listening to bickering in Jr, High School.
I hope to see straight reporting and real journalism return. I miss it.
