Sony Hedges Blu-ray Bet With Downloads

Sony, which developed the high-definition Blu-ray disc format, is trying to stave off competition from services such as Apple’s iTunes and Netflix by developing its own movie-download service for its PlayStation 3 games console, Broadcasting & Cable reports. Sony is also trying to spur growth of its Bravia Internet Video Link, a component that facilitates video-streaming straight to its flatscreen TV line, B&C says.
