Future of Advertising Regulation Remains Unclear

Many advertising industry insiders remain uncertain as to what the Obama administration will have in store in terms of laws and regulations for marketers, MediaPost reports. However, Dan Jaffe, Association of National Advertisers executive VP of government relations, says the direction will rely on two key appointments; Rep. Henry A. Waxman as chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Sen. John Rockefeller as chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, according to the site. Waxman has a history of advocating for stricter rules over tobacco and prescription drug advertising, and Rockefeller has worked on laws for TV violence, MediaPost says.
