Markey Agrees DTV Switch Delay May Be Necessary

Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., chairman of the House Telecommunications & Internet Subcommittee, said the Feb. 17 DTV switch deadline may be postponed after receiving a letter from the Consumers Union urging a delay, Broadcasting & Cable reports. The potential delay has been confirmed by “several sources,” according to B&C, which says President-elect Barack Obama’s FCC transition team has been “very busy” with issues related to DTV funds running out. Rep. Markey also is working on an exemption to the Antideficiency Act, which prevents the National Telecommunications & Information Administration from spending money it expects to be freed up as converter-box coupons expire.
