Jane Velez-Mitchell is grabbing ratings records for CNN, five months after she was given nine-hours notice to host a slot left vacant by Glenn Beck’s departure for Fox, the New York Times reports. Velez-Mitchell, who is a lesbian and vegan, reached an average of 241,000 25-to-54 year old viewers in February, up from the 157,000 that Beck’s show drew a year earlier, the newspaper says.

  1. What does her sexual preferance or choice of food have to do with this story? I listen to the show on Sirius and neither preferance would sway me to listen or not. This is just another case of the sad state of journalism in this country. By the way, I’m straight and a meat eater, if that is a prerequisite for commenting on this story.

  2. I agree with Randy and find using a misleading headline to grab attention to a story offensive.

  3. I agree as well with the guys. I care about good reporting not who you sleep with or what you eat. Or maybe it’s because Glenn was a “hetrosexual” that he was not getting the ratings. Must be a “lesbian” thing. Between Jane and Rachel Maddow we are finanly getting unbiased news! I have been watching Jane for years here in the LA area and she has always been a great reporter. Tell Aimee to get a life and leran what is important to regular people, not ratings hype!!!!
